RCD was established in 1997 for the purpose of adaptation of cutting-edge research methods and technological innovations for applied areas of engineering and technology.
- Simulation and modeling of engineering constructions' behaviour under high-speed loading.
- Modeling of defected engineering constructions (crack groth simulation, micro defects, etc.)
- Testing of material behaviour in exterme conditions (high-speed loading, agressive chemical environment, etc.)

Main scientific objectives of the center:
- Development of new principles of material testing.
- Modeling of construction behavior in extreme conditions of high-speed loading.
- Application of new scientific methods to solution of technological problems in modern industry; spreading these methods in the area of scientific research.
